I'm a full-time working
wife and mother of 2 kids with little time to spend on decorating decisions.
My husband and I have enjoyed working with Marlene since building our home in
1999. When we made the decision to build instead of buy existing it meant
putting a lot of thought into what the overall look and feel of what we wanted
our home to be, versus inheriting someone else's decisions. Marlene
designed and decorated models for our builder and after seeing a few decorated
models, we asked for her contact information. I told my husband, "I can
spend a lot of money on the wrong stuff and I want the end result to be right
the first time". He "got it" and we engaged her for the main and upper
level decisions on window coverings, furniture, accessories, etc... About
3 years after we moved in, I was ready to add color to the walls so we engaged
Marlene's help again. What resulted was a beautiful combination of
textured light-colored walls with darker accent walls which included bringing
attention to our inverted arched window areas throughout our open floor plan.
We loved the layout of our home but once the color was added, it brought
attention to the unique architectural features that weren't noticed before.
Just this year we made plans to finish our basement and engaged Marlene again to
provide space-planning recommendations for our theatre, game, bathroom and
office/guest rooms. She also recommended furniture, flooring (quality
contractors), wall color and window coverings to ensure the end result will be a
well-coordinated look and flow for the lower level.
It's clear that her
many years of decorating models on a budget has helped her advise us when and
where we can cut corners and when it's necessary to invest a bit more to
maintain quality and longevity in our purchases. I have good taste but
would have definitely made decisions along the way that would have been wrong
and ended up costing more to correct without Marlene's guidance. She's all
about giving "options" for our consideration versus telling us what we want.
